Process: Full professional biocide treatment (two-week dwell period). High-pressure soft wash to remove all dead biological growth. Re-bedding and re-pointing of ridge capping throughout. Concrete tile primer applied. Two full topcoats of premium roof and trim paint in Ironsand colour applied by airless spray.

After: Roof completely transformed — all moss and lichen eliminated, tiles returned to uniform colour, ridge capping restored, and a professional two-coat premium paint system applied. Expected life: 10–15 years before repainting required.

Before & After: Colorsteel Long-Run Metal Roof — North Shore

Suburb: Takapuna, North Shore Auckland

Roof type: Colorsteel long-run metal, approximately 140m², coastal location within 800m of the beach

Before: Significant UV fade across south-facing slope. Early-stage surface corrosion at three fastener locations on the north slope. Black algae streaking across the valley areas. Paint chalking visible when rubbed — indicating coating was near end of life and needed replacement before further substrate damage.

Process: Full surface inspection including all fasteners and flashings. Rust treatment and wire brushing of three corroded areas followed by spot primer application. Full high-pressure wash of the entire roof. Full metal-formulation primer applied. Two topcoats of premium roof and trim paint in Ironsand applied by airless spray. New aluminium ridge capping applied at north ridge where original was faded and lifting.

After: Uniform, factory-fresh appearance across the full roof. All corrosion points arrested and protected. The premium metal paint system including primer provides excellent salt air resistance for this coastal North Shore location.

Project cost: $3,600 including surface treatment, primer, two-coat premium paint system, and ridge cap work.

Before & After: Corrugated Iron Roof — South Auckland

Suburb: Manurewa, South Auckland

Roof type: Corrugated iron (original to the home, approximately 1985), 120m²

Before: Widespread surface rust in the valleys and at all screw penetrations. Previous DIY paint job showing significant peeling on the south slope. Gutters blocked with debris and the rear downpipe partially crushed. Moss established in the valley between the main roof and the garage extension.

Process: Full surface rust treatment using rust converter on all affected areas. Removal of peeling paint on south slope by wire brush and scraper. High-pressure wash. Gutters cleared and rear downpipe replaced. Full primer application over entire roof including rust-treated areas. Two topcoats of premium roof and trim paint in Rivergum Metallic.

After: Corrugated iron fully protected and presenting like a new roof. All rust arrested at source with primer acting as ongoing barrier. DIY peeling section fully resolved with proper surface preparation. Estimated 12+ years of service remaining before repainting is advisable.

Project cost: $2,950 including rust treatment, primer, two-coat system, and downpipe replacement.

Before & After: Full Roof Restoration — Central Auckland Heritage Home

Suburb: Grey Lynn, Central Auckland

Roof type: Heritage corrugated iron on a pre-1940s villa, 110m² main roof + 40m² outbuilding

Before: Original corrugated iron with multiple generations of paint. Heavy rust staining on the lean-to outbuilding. A cracked skylight flashing causing an active leak into the rear bedroom. Fascia board at the front eave showing rot from gutter overflow.

Process: Full inspection and structural condition report. Skylight flashing removed, roof sealed, new aluminium flashing fabricated and installed. Rotten fascia section removed and replaced with treated timber. Full rust treatment and surface preparation on both roof sections. Primer and two-coat premium roof and trim paint in heritage-appropriate Colorsteel Slate colour. Period-correct ridge capping retained and repainted to match.

After: Heritage home restored to its original character. Active leak eliminated. Fascia repaired. Full premium paint system applied to both roof sections. Character of the original corrugated iron profile preserved — the home looks period-correct and protected for another decade-plus.

Project cost: $5,100 including repairs, flashing work, fascia replacement, and full paint system on both sections.
