Roof Moss Treatment Video: Our Team on Real Auckland Roofs

This one-minute film shows our team spraying moss and lichen treatment on Auckland tile and long-run metal roofs. The treatment goes on at low pressure across the roof and is left to work. Growth turns brown or grey over 2–6 weeks, and the job costs $250–$1,400+ with the wash included.

What Does This Video Show?

Every clip is our own footage, filmed on the roof during a real Auckland job. It starts with moss and lichen close up along the edge of a roof, moves through a run of tile roofs, then shows long-run metal. The film has no sound, and the on-screen captions tell you what you are looking at.

How Is the Treatment Applied?

We first look at the roof to see what is growing and how much of it there is. The treatment then goes on through a hose-end sprayer: a wide, low-pressure fan rather than a water-blaster, so it wets the growth without driving water at the roof. We work across every plane, including the ridges and edges where lichen collects, then leave it to work. Our roof moss treatment service page sets out the full process and prices.

What Product Do You Use?

The sprayer in these clips holds a hose-applied moss, mould, lichen and algae remover. It is the same type of product you can buy from an NZ hardware store, and we would rather tell you that than imply a secret formula. What you pay a roofing team for is safe access to the roof, even coverage and someone who looks at the roof while up there. Our guide to roof cleaning chemicals explains the main types.

What Happens After the Spray?

The treatment is left to work. Moss and lichen begin dying within days and turn brown or grey over 2–6 weeks, with heavy growth toward the longer end. Where the job includes removal, we come back once the growth is dead. Our moss treatment aftercare guide covers what to expect in those weeks, and our lichen and moss guide explains why the two behave differently.

What Do These Jobs Look Like Up Close?

These photos are from the same kind of job, taken while the treatment was going on. They show the spray, not the finished roof.

What Do People Ask After Watching?

These clips were filmed on the day of treatment, and moss does not vanish that day. The treatment is left to work, and growth begins dying within days and turns brown or grey over 2–6 weeks. A clean, finished roof is a later stage, after the dead growth has gone or been removed.

Treatment starts working on contact, but the visible change takes time. Moss and lichen usually turn brown and die back within 2–6 weeks, with a heavy infestation toward the longer end. We can return to remove dead growth by hand if you would like an immediate clean finish.

Roof moss treatment in Auckland costs $250–$1,400+ depending on how much growth there is, and the wash is included. Roof size, pitch and access also affect the figure, so we write the quote after seeing the roof. The visit and the written quote are free, with no obligation.

Yes. The film shows both long-run metal and tile roofs being treated, because moss and lichen grow on each of them in Auckland. On metal, growth holds moisture against the paint and speeds up corrosion. On concrete tile, it works into the porous surface. We use lower concentrations on painted or coated roofs.

You can buy this type of hose-applied remover at NZ hardware stores, and it does work. The hard part is the roof: it is slippery when wet, and missed patches regrow first. We plan each job around the condition of the roof and follow WorkSafe requirements for working at height, so if you are not set up for that, hire a roofing team.
